The pilot Engineering Economy project provides the trainees with fundamental knowledge, skills, general principals and methodologies of the engineering economy to enhance their economical decision-making ability. Although the training will be given to engineers and engineering students, the published (on the net www.Engineering-Ecomoy.com) developed material may be used for accounting, economics, finance, and management students.

Mission and Objectives of the Project
|
Mission |
Development of private sector, especially small to medium sized enterprise, using engineering economy principals and applications. |
|
Vision |
This pilot project may be extended to teach a complete course or even semester in EU-Countries, or by EU-Professors in Egypt, as a requirement of completion of a certain Egyptian program. |
|
Objective |
Participation of Egyptian staff with EU-staff in training post/under graduate students on Engineering Economy (EE), and development of a prototype EE educational material that will include the usage of most recent teaching facilities in addition to a wide spectrum of model applications. |
Although, about 35% of the project activities were accomplished, until now, the fund is not transferred. All project partners and FECU team members exerted the required efforts to reach the above percentage. Great thanks to FECU administration especially: Prof. Mohamed Kamal Bedewy, FECU Dean and Prof. Zeinab Safar, Head of MPE Dept., for their support to the Egyptian project team. They made the entire infrastructure available for the project as well as FECU co-finance. The main activates and their implementation percentages are:
Establishment of FECU team, 100%
Develop Engineering Economy Website, 75%
Project Management and Monitoring, 50%
Survey of National and International EEEM, 90%
Develop Educational Material, 40%
Design and Implementation of Evaluation System, 65%
Conduct Training Program, 50%
Purchase training digital library and equipment, 5%
Holding Dissemination Seminar, 0%

Engineering Economy Filtration Strategies
In first week, the willing applicants were selected. We measure the applicant's interest and seriousness while filling and submitting the required documents. Moreover, trainees of First Week were selected to represent the diversity of following categories:
1. Different departments in FECU
2. Different trainees (students, graduates and teaching assistants)
3. Gender (female, male)
4. Different grades (fair, good, very good, distinction)
We have to state that as a result of the increasing number of applicants, the Egyptian project team decided to increase the number of trainees in First Week from 73 to 140.
Some Statistical Data: 400 Potential trainees applied
Under-graduate = 63% (including: second, third and fourth year students)
Graduate = 27% (including: engineers, post-graduate students and teaching assistants)
Gender Percentage: Male = 80% Female = 20%
In second week, the willing applicants were selected. We measure the applicant's interest and seriousness by the following items:
1 – Attending the full module of first training week
2 – Getting high score in Trainee Evaluation Form
3 – Submitting Trainer EF
4 – Submitting two reports for Module 1 as well as one lecture of Module 2.
Some Statistical Data for First and Second Week:
139 Potential Trainees were accepted in first week.
124 Trainees completed submission in the first training week
109 Trainees attended the whole lectures of the first training week
113 Trainees submitted the required evaluation forms
42 Trainees were accepted to attend the second training week:
Under-graduate = 50% (second, third and fourth year)
Graduate = 50% (engineers, post-graduate students and teaching assistants)
Gender Percentage: Male = 76% Female = 24% (increased by 4%)
8 different departments in the faculty
Reduction of potential trainees in Engineering Economy training
It is planned that other applicants who were not selected will benefit from the project as follows: they benefit from softcopy of EE educational material downloaded from the project website, or they receive a hardcopy of EE educational material from the project administration as well as they will receive attendance certificate.
